The Dutch textile industry has initiated a foundation “Stichting UPV Textiel” to support producers in fulfilling their individual EPR obligations

On 1 July 2023, extended producer responsibility for textiles will come into force in the Netherlands. The initiative was founded to help obliged producers and importers to fulfil the individual responsibility. On behalf of the participants, the stichting will organize the collection, reuse and recycling of discarded textiles collectively.

The EPR for Textiles Decree obliges producers and importers of clothing and household textiles to organize the separate collection, reuse and recycling for those textiles which are placed on the Dutch market. For 2025, the following objectives are set:

At least 50% is prepared for reuse or recycled of which:

  • at least 20% reuse
  • at least 10% reuse in the Netherlands
  • at least 25% of the recycling is fibre-to-fibre recycling
