The Environmental Audit Committee of the House of Common published on 19 Feb 2019 a report on clothing consumption and sustainability. The report “Fixing Fashion” evaluates the social costs of clothing due to labour exploitation, the environmental impact and addresses the waste problem due to the high fashion consumption.
Furthermore, the report concludes that the unsustainable way of making, using and throwing away of clothing needs a fundamental change in the system as well on textile production chain as on consumer side. Therefore, the committee recommends the government shall set framework for a variety of individual topics.
